Overview

In Alan's words...

"I first heard of this 1973 Porsche RHD Targa in 2008. 1973 was the first year of the Targa so it has always been an interesting car to me. The owner contacted me in 2008 with questions about the car, as well as to discuss the possibility of restoring it. He decided not to undertake the restoration at that stage but couple of years later he asked if I would like to buy the car. At this time Targas and even RHD Porsches did not carry the value they do today and to most a full restoration would be beyond economic repair. However I decided to purchase the car for myself and could then decide to restore it at my leisure (with no restrictions on time and budget). I pulled this Porsche Targa single-handedly, from where it had sat since the early 1980's, and loaded into onto my trailer. The interior had already been removed from the car but at first glance it all seemed to be present and in good condition. Having been stationary for so long the shell itself was covered in dust and grime. I could see that whilst the car was in dire need of a restoration, it was in fact pretty sound. In the past the previous owner had modified the bodywork to represent an RS, including correct RS rear flares as well as changing duck tail and bumper. These works were poorly executed and each panel needed to be replaced anyway due to corrosion and damage. After an inspection and quick clean in the workshop I decided to place the car in our storage facility and there it sat until 2017. My original intention was not to sell the Porsche RHD Targa but in 2016 I was contacted by Mitch Dall and I felt strongly that this was the perfect car for his requirements and was now ideal for restoration. So in January 2017 the full restoration of this 1973 Porsche 911 Targa commenced. And here is the finished result. Mitch is pleased as punch and enjoys driving it regularly."
