#TBT Scott McCurdy, Canford Classics' Operations Manager

A few months ago, a Porsche Club member gave me a large number of Porsche Post magazines from the 1980’s and they have made fascinating reading. If the prices being asked for used pre-impact bumper 911’s weren’t enough to make you weep, some of the ‘forward dating’ projects certainly would and the discussions about scrapping 356’s, 911’s and 912’s due to uneconomical repairs just wouldn’t happen these days.

However, it’s been the hidden gems in the editorial that have been of most interest - for example, reading the winter 1989 issue (with Ferry Porsche on the cover, no less!), I came across a report on the annual ‘Parts Person of the Year’ award. Reading earlier issues of the magazine, I hadn’t been surprised to discover that Dorset based dealership, Heddell and Deeks, had been regular winners in various categories of the annual Porsche GB awards and as Porsche Centre Bournemouth they continue to offer great service to this day. But something else caught my eye this time, a familiar name in the editorial and a familiar face (towering above all others) in the group photograph. Yes, it was none other than Canford Classics’ Operations Manager, Scott McCurdy, who had bagged a runner-up award when working for Heddell and Deeks as a fresh faced and hirsute youngster, beaten only by his boss – but that’s another story.

Twenty seven years on from that award winners' photograph and with twenty seven years more experience, Scott’s knowledge of Porsche parts is unmatched and is one of the assets that enables Canford Classics to offer a service that is second to none, whether you just want a new set of wheel nuts or a full restoration.

Blogs will resume after the Christmas break. I hope you have a very merry Christmas and a happy new year.
