Overview

Finished in Beige Grey, this 1968 Porsche was originally supplied in Burbank, California, before being imported to the UK from Arizona in 2010. The car arrived as an engine-less 912, alongside a period-correct 911 engine, and the decision was made to unite the two—creating a beautifully balanced and engaging classic.

Now, 15 years on, this much-loved example is ready for its next custodian. Throughout its time in the UK, the car has been carefully maintained and serviced by Canford, ensuring it remains in excellent condition. In 2022 the current owner commissioned an engine build which is documented in the history file. With new cams, rebuilt weber carbs, new 911E barrels and pistons the engine produced 170 hp on the dyno.

During restoration (2010–2011), the shell was fully stripped and refinished in its original Porsche Beige Grey. Extensive works were carried out, including:

  • Replacement of all fuel and brake lines, and brake components
  • Full suspension overhaul with new shocks
  • New cables, heater system, bearings and bushes
  • Rebuilt and detailed 5-speed 901 gearbox
  • New driveshafts and heater pods
  • Re-plating of chrome components, including window frames
  • Refurbished brightwork, lights and indicators
  • New window rubbers, handbrake system, and rebuilt steering rack

Many original features, including the pedal assembly, were also stripped and refurbished to a high standard.

The car is now fitted with a period-correct 911 engine (non-original but era-appropriate), which has been inspected, measured, and rebuilt. Photographic documentation of this work is included in the history file.

Inside, the interior has been comprehensively renewed, with new headlining, carpets, sun visors, seats, and seat belts. Rear seat belts have also been fitted for added practicality. The cabin offers a comfortable and refined driving environment, complemented by the original working Blaupunkt Frankfurt radio.

Originally sitting on chrome steel wheels, this option remains available for the next owner to choose if desired. These short wheelbase (SWB) cars are renowned for their engaging driving experience, and this beautifully restored 1968 Porsche is no exception—an immensely enjoyable classic that is sure to delight its next owner.
