1968 (SOLD). Porsche 912/911 (Canford Classics Restoration)
Overview
What do you do with an American import engine-less 912 and a 2.2 litre 911 engine sat on the workshop engine stand? We took the decision to combine the two and produce this beautiful Slate Grey 912/911 conversion. Correctly modified and detailed with original 911 parts, this 912 has been brought to the 911 specification you see here.
This SWB 1968 Porsche was first purchased by Canford Classics in 2010 originally to become the owner's personal car. It was eventually fully restored in 2017/18 and since completion has only driven 500 miles.
The shell was completely stripped and media cleaned back to full bare metal shell before being fully painted in Porsche Slate Grey. Restoration works are extensive and include: all fuel lines, brake lines, all brake part components, full interior, 911 gauges, steering wheel, suspension, all shocks, all cables, heater system and all bearings and bushes. The 5 speed aluminium 901 gearbox has been fully rebuilt and detailed. New drive shafts have been fitted and heater pods installed, as well as re-plating of all chrome parts, including the window frames. Even the lights and indicators had the bright work re-chromed, all new window rubbers, restored steel wheels, 5 correct XAS tyres, all new handbrake system and rebuilt steering rack. Many of the original features such as handbrake and foot pedals underwent a full strip and restoration.
This 1968 car now has a fully rebuilt and detailed 2.2 litre 911 engine which, whilst not original, is correct for the era. The engine has been stripped down to each component, each of which was inspected and measured before being rebuilt and detailed. The exhaust has been replaced with stainless steel components and the induction replaced with brand new twin PMO carburettors.
The final restoration process concluded in fitting this stunning oxblood interior, which has been fully retrimmed. The headliner, carpets, sun visors and seat belts are all new items. The result is a very comfortable place to be, and when you need a change from the exhaust note, simply turn on the original working radio. If you take a look under the bonnet you’ll see that all matches the detail of the rest of the car. The new fuel tank, lines, wiring, restored spare wheel and new tyre is neatly covered by a new trunk carpet, complete with brand new tool kit and jack.
Simply turn the key and enjoy classic Porsche driving.
These SWB cars are such fun to drive and this 1968 Porsche is sure to please any buyer.
