1973 RHD 911T Matching Numbers
Overview
Picture the scene…it's 2011. An enjoyable weekend with Canford Classics displaying at the 50 Years of PCGB show in Cirencester ends with Alan sneaking into the sales auction and ultimately purchasing this Bahia Red 1973 911, alongside a Guards Red 930! Shortly after taking delivery at the workshop, the sale and subsequent restoration of “PAY” was agreed.
The restoration scope was settled on - take the matching numbers RHD 911T, strip it to the bare bones and restore, replace and improve as necessary. The gearbox was fitted with a Quaife LSD. Engine capacity increased to 2.8 litres. T cams replaced with S spec items. Weber carbs rebuilt. Oil lines and trombone cooler added. Deser Sports Seats fitted, finished in black vinyl with cord centres. The upgrades weren’t to alter the original aesthetics - original “Flat 6” Fuchs wheels were restored and shod in period correct Michelin XWX tyres. Wheel arch trims remained as well as the front bumper over riders.
PAY has had 9 previous keepers throughout its life, which has been fully documented in its
impressive service history. Invoices from Autofarm, Tuthills and Sports Purpose sit alongside the Canford Classics documentation of the restoration, with Tuthills recently fettling the carbs in 2024. The history file also contains the COA and MOT certificates dating back to 1978, invoices from as far back as 1976 and personal letters to the then owner from AFN.
The sale of this extremely well presented and impeccably maintained early 911 represents astounding value for money, as purchase and restoration costs today would total far in excess of the advertised price.
