Overview

"I took it the Goodwood Members' Meeting recently and many said that it was the best Touring they had ever seen." James Cottingham, owner.

In 1972, when the Porsche 2.7 RS was first built, FIA regulations stipulated that Porsche needed to build 500 in order for the Porsche 911 to go GT racing. All 500 were sold within a week of the car's international debut at the 1972 Paris Show. After that a further 500 were made (to enable entry to Group 3 racing) and then a final 500 built. Special 911's have been and gone over the past 4-5 decades but none have proved as enduring or iconic as the Porsche 2.7 RS.

The car that we restored in 2016 was one the later batches that Porsche built. It is RHD which makes it even more sought after than the LHD models. It is owned by James Cottingham, director of DK Engineering (specialists in classic Ferrari - and Porsche - sales and restorations). James is the son of DK Engineering founder David Cottingham.

"Alan understood my point of view, I wanted to preserve the car, not just restore it." James recalled. I didn't want to take up a restoration slot at DK that could have gone to a customer and besides I like to separate business from pleasure."

"This was a full body restoration and it was re-painted in its stunning original colour Lilac. It has been a huge privilege to undertake this classic Porsche restoration, which has included many RS-specific parts. It has been one of our most detailed projects to date and is sure to bring the owner many years of enjoyment." Alan Drayson.
