For Sale 1965 911 - New Price Call for Details
Overview
Now and again something special comes up for sale. This is such a car, a very rare 1965 911 (300 series), chassis number 517. These early 911s represent the start of the 911 journey which still continues today, almost 60 years later.
These very early 911s are known for their distinctive design, performance and the pioneering air-cooled flat-six engine. This particular 911 was delivered to Brussels-based dealer D'Ieteren on 4th March 1965. Dry stored for many years “517”requires some renovation works, (the degree of which can be decided by the new owner) however (bar the Solex Carbs) it remains very original. A colour change in the distant past, the original colour was the iconic Slate Grey 6401 - which we believe it should be returned to. The original build sheet confirms that the car retains its original engine and gearbox also with its all original flooring and interior.
Stored inside a dry garage since the mid 80's, the Kardex and oil change decals show the mileage to be only 81,000. Interestingly over 40% of the total mileage was completed in the first 3 years!
Given their historical significance and limited numbers a well preserved or fully restored 1965 911 is a car to be cherished.
What makes it unique is how it retains most of its original parts. Many cars of this age lose many of the smaller and very specific details inherent to these 1965 cars. In later years design changes in the 911 happened year by year, whilst on the 1965 model changes happened every month! This model retains many of these often overlooked details. The interior is simply stunning (the only minor alteration is re-padding of the front seats). We hope that the new owner keeps the interior just as it is.
These very early 911s, particularly those from 1964/65 quickly established themselves as icons of automotive design and engineering, setting the stage for the 911 to become the most enduring sports car in history. Fancy owning a piece of history and adding to its story by bringing it back to its prime?
